About our Company

Ken Walston, the company founder, an engineer with several patents and other inventions, has been employed in many industries dealing with construction, manufacturing production and product development. Motivation to develop a manufacturing plant came from two events:

  1. involvement with walk-in coolers and an understanding of their energy efficiency and
  2. a desire for a higher quality and more energy efficient home.

While leaning on the wall of a walk-in-cooler, Mr. Walston realized that the wall was not cold, even with temperatures on the other side were 50 below zero with a 30-mph wind. This seemed like a good solution for energy efficient home construction.

It was discovered later that in addition to better energy savings, SIP’s provided a superior quality structure for strength, quietness and fire protection.

After a detailed analysis of the different core materials, polyurethane was selected because of its superior insulating qualities, chemical resistance and fire resistance properties over other commonly used core materials. Polyurethane cores are more difficult to manufacture and require a higher initial capital, the reason many other companies choose a different core material. Because of the desire to provide the highest technology and the best value to the customer, the manufacturing challenge was accepted. This conclusion has been supported throughout other industries. Most manufactures of spas, freezers and other similar highly insulated equipment have progressed from fiberglass batts to polystyrene and finally to polyurethane as their insulating material.

In 1994, KC Panels, Inc. began manufacturing Structural Insulated Panels that created a superior building system that replaces the traditional building materials of "stick" and "brick" construction. Since the early days the company has produced SIP panels for over 250 buildings, including residential, office buildings, retail stores, cold storage buildings, horse barns, workrooms and children’s playhouses. The company is growing at a rate of double the prior year. The company has grown steadily and has shipped panels all across Arizona and into the neighboring states.

KC Panels is still a family owned business and customer service is the highest priority. Come in and see us and get acquainted with our staff.
